This list comes from the same ranking as our full fitting, and the score is how well a ball’s design fits this swing by that ranking. It can’t see how a ball feels or how you strike it. The full fitting also takes a budget and picks your clubs.

How it works
One ranking, used everywhere on the site.
This list comes from the same ranking as our full fitting. Swing speed, handicap and ball flight go in, each ball in our catalog gets a match score out of 100 with the reasons behind it, and the three highest are shown. There is no model and no rule of our own on this page: it asks only for the answers the ball ranking reads.
The score is how well a ball’s design fits your swing. It can’t see how a ball feels around the green or how you strike it, so treat it as a short list to try. Prices shown are launch prices from our catalog, not today’s.
Does swing speed matter for a golf ball?
Yes, it is the biggest part of the ranking. Our scoring matches a faster swing with a firmer, higher-compression ball and a slower swing with a softer one, and that match is the largest single part of a ball's score. Speed also counts a second time: every ball in our catalog lists the swing speeds it suits, and a ball scores more the nearer your speed sits to the middle of that range.
Does my handicap change which ball I should play?
A little. Each ball lists the handicaps it suits, and it scores more when yours sits near the middle of that range. Cover is the other part: for handicaps up to 20 we look for a urethane cover, and above 20 an ionomer cover, which lasts longer and flies straighter. A urethane ball still earns half the cover points at any handicap.
Which ball suits a high ball flight, or drives that balloon?
If you say your ball flight is high or your drives balloon, the ranking looks for a low-spin ball. If you say it is low, it looks for a high-spin one. Mid, or no answer, leaves spin out of the score. Nothing else about your miss changes the ball ranking, so this page does not ask for it.
Does the ranking use my budget?
The full fitting does: it takes a budget and gives balls in the matching price tier a few extra points. This page does not ask for one, because the fitting's budget bands are for clubs, not for a dozen balls. Each ball shows its launch price per dozen from our catalog so you can weigh it yourself. These are launch prices, not today's.
