Iron check

Are my irons still right for me?

Tell us your irons and your game. We score them with the same ranking as our free fitting, and show the three iron sets we would put in your hands today.

Your irons
Your shaft optional

Give the shaft and its flex and we check it against the flex and weight we would fit at your swing. A tempo moves the flex we look for and lets us check the kick point; it is used for this shaft check only. Stock shafts are listed too.

Your game

Our fitting ranks irons from your driver swing speed. Not sure of it? Give your usual driver distance, with roll, and we estimate it. A speed wins if you give both.

About this check

How it works

One ranking, used everywhere on the site.

We score irons the way our fitting does: swing speed, handicap, usual miss, ball flight and budget go in, and each iron set in our catalog gets a match score out of 100 with the reasons behind it. This page runs your current irons and our three best through that same ranking.

The score is how well the design fits your game. It can't see your clubs' condition or how you strike the ball, and it leaves the shaft out: give your shaft and its flex and we check it separately, with the same flex, weight and kick point rules as our fitting. Prices shown are launch prices from our catalog, not today's.

How do I know if I need new irons?

Look at how your irons fit your game today, not at their age. If your handicap, swing speed or usual miss have changed, a different type of iron may help: more forgiving as the scores go up, more workable as they come down. Run them through this check, then confirm with a fitter or a launch monitor, because the numbers there show what your own swing does with them.

Do newer irons always perform better?

No. A newer set is not automatically a better fit for your game. What matters is whether its design suits your handicap and speed. Our ranking does give newer models a few extra points, so this check tells you how much of any gap is age and how much is fit.

What does the match score mean?

It is how well a set of irons fits your game by our ranking, out of 100. It is the same score our fitting uses. It does not see the condition of your clubs, their lofts and lies or how you strike the ball, and the shaft is left out of it, so treat it as a guide and not a ruling. If you give your shaft and its flex, we check the shaft on its own against the flex and weight we would fit at your swing; that never changes the score.
